Joanna Malpica (she/her) is a Chamoru/Filipina artist who fosters connections with both community and self through photography. Born in Guahan and raised in Concord, California, these connections have been created and nourished through providing artists portraits in her API in the Bay Project, photography mentoring at First Exposures, and staying active in the Bay Area photo community. Her work has been part of community-led photography shows, most notably Spaces & Faces: A Portrait of the Bay Area at the Oakland Photo Workshop. She currently resides in the SF Bay Area and is currently exploring identity based artwork through portraiture honoring her cultural heritage informed by her upbringing in the Chamoru diaspora.
